MiLB Game Summary Reports – 04-27-2024

Weekends are tougher for me to write a post with a lot of away soccer and hockey games.  I got home and only had the energy to write up the MiLB Game Summary Reports.

MiLB GAME SUMMARY REPORTS

Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado) 10 – OKC Baseball Club 7

Eduardo Salazar started for OKC and was battered around in his 3.2 IP.  He gave up 9 runs which was one more than his previous 4 starts combined.  But then again, none of those were in Albuquerque.

Tanner Dodson allowed a HR in the 5th for the 10th run.  Braydon Fisher and Jesse Hahn kept the Isotopes off the board the final three innings.

In the 2nd inning, Ryan Ward singled and scored on a Kody Hoese double.  In the 4th, Andre Lipcius hit a 3-run HR, and this would prove to be the last time OKC was in the game.

OKC did load the bases with 3 singles in the 5th with one out, but did not score.

In the 8th, Ryan Ward drew a walk and scored on Kody Hoese’s 2nd double of the game.  Hoese came around to score on 2 wild pitches.

Miguel Vargas slugged his 5th HR, his first since April 3, for the final run by OKC, as they fell short by 3.

Trey Sweeney had 2 singles in his 5 AB.  Sweeney has now reached base in each of the 25 games he has appeared in this year.  He is on a 7-game hitting streak (16-35 – .457).

Kody Hoese had 2 doubles, and has a hit in 16 of the 18 games he has played this year.  How he has started the season, has to raise the eyebrows of all who had given up on him.  I do not think he will get a legit chance at LAD, but he sure deserves a chance at trying to show what he has at the MLB level.

  • Miguel Vargas – 2-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI, HR (5)
  • Trey Sweeney – 2-5
  • Andre Lipcius – 2-5, 1 run, 3 RBI, HR (3)
  • Ryan Ward – 3-4, 1 BB, 2 runs
  • Kody Hoese – 2-4, 1 run, 2 RBI, 2 doubles (6)

Box Score

Great Lakes Loons 14 – Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres) 3

This was a much anticipated match between a pair of young first round picks.  22 year old LHP Maddux Bruns was making his 2024 debut for the Loons, and 20 year old RHP Dylan Lesko starting for the TinCaps.  This was the second time Lesko has faced the Loons.  The last time he threw four shutout innings, no hits, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K.

Well the anticipation was short lived as Bruns did not get out of the 2nd inning and Lesko did not get out of the 3rd.

Bruns struck out the first two on 7 pitches, and got a F-7 3rd out.  That was 11 pitches, with the first 8 strikes and 9 of the 11.

In the 2nd, Great Lakes broke out with 3 on an Alex Freeland 3-run HR, following a Yunior Garcia double and a Jake Vogel BB.

After Bruns’ 1st inning, it was set up for him to pitch and not to throw. 1st batter drew a BB, followed by a single.  On a sac bunt, Bruns made an errant throw and one run scored with runners on 2nd and 3rd.  After a ground out, the 2nd run scored on a sacrifice fly.  The next two batters walked, and Bruns was lifted after 32 pitches in the 2nd for Kelvin Bautista.

Bruns final line –  1.2 IP, 3 runs (1 earned), 1 hit, 3 BB, 2 K, 43 pitches (25 strikes).

With the score knotted at 3-3, Lesko was in a position to take charge.

Dylan Campbell doubles to open the inning.  Chris Newell drew a 1 out BB.  Yunior Garcia drew a 2 out BB to load the bases.  Campbell scored on a WP.  Nick Biddison walked to load the bases again.  Jake Vogel drew a walk that plated Newell.  Lesko was pulled after 2.2 IP and 70 pitches.  The next pitcher hit Alex Freeland to force in the third run.

Singles by Campbell, Kyle Nevin, and Chris Newell brought in the Loons’ 7th run in the 4th.

The Loons scored their 8th run in the 6th with Kyle Nevin leading off and singling.  With one out, Tharon Liranzo singled and Nevin moved to third.  Nevin scored on a Garcia sac fly.

In the 7th, Thayron Liranzo hit a 3 run HR.  In the 9th, Liranzo was the key bat once again.  He hit a 2 run double, and scored the third run of the inning on a ground out.  Liranzo is finally showing signs of life.  He is 4-9 in the last two games with 2 doubles, a HR, and 5 RBI.

The Loons pitchers were dominant after the 2nd inning.  Kelvin Bautista and Michael Martinez pitched a scoreless and hitless inning each, before Christian Romero entered in the 5th.  He had help from a pair of DP, but in no inning did he allow 2 runners on the bases until the 9th.  He got the K to end the game.  Romero pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, 2 singles, 3 BB, and 4 K.  Romero threw 68 pitches in his 5.0 IP.

  • Alex Freeland – 2-4, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 run, 4 RBI, double (6), HR (2)
  • Dylan Campbell – 3-5, 1 HBP, 3 runs
  • Kyle Nevin – 3-6, 2 runs
  • Thayron Liranzo – 3-6, 2 runs, 5 RBI, double (4), HR (1)
  • Yunior Garcia – 1-4, 1 BB, 2 runs, 2 RBI, sacrifice fly, double (1)
  • Jake Vogel – 1-2, 3 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI
  • Chris Newell – 1-4, 2 BB, 2 runs, 1 RBI

Box Score

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7 – Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres) 4

Edgardo Henriquez started and completed 2.0 innings.  He faced 7 batters.  He walked 1 and struck out 6.

RC got on the board in the 1st.  Kendall George led off with a single and scored on 3 wild pitches.

Jose Rodriguez continued his stellar pitching.  He was not as dominant as he was in his last outing (04-21), he was still very good.  He completed 4.0 innings, 2 hits, 2 BB, and 6 K.  He did allow an unearned run in the 4th.  After the leadoff hitter reached on a fielding error, Rodriguez issued a walk. A single brought home the unearned run.  Rodriguez proceeded to strike out the next three batters after the single to retire the side.

RC got the run back in the bottom of the 4th.  A walk, single, and two HBP forced in a run.

RC broke it open in the 6th while scoring 5.  Carlos Rojas singled, and Jordan Thompson drew a BB.  Both runners came home on a Logan Wagner triple.  Wagner scored on a single by Jefferson Valladares.  Juan Alonso doubled putting runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Both runners scored on a WP and sac fly.

Joseilyn Gonzalez allowed two runs in the 7th and another in the 8th to let the Storm creep back into the game.  But Reynaldo Yean entered in the 9th to close it out.  He walked one but struck out the side for his 2nd save.

  • Carlos Rojas – 2-3, 1 run
  • Logan Wagner – 1-3, 1 HBP, 1 run, 2 RBI, triple (1)
  • Jeral Perez – 1-4, Sac Fly, 1 RBI
  • Juan Alonso – 1-2, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 run, 1 RBI, double (4)
  • Zyhir Hope – 1-4, double (8)

Box Score

The Tulsa Drillers game against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (KC) was postponed due to threatening weather.  They are scheduled to play two 7 inning games on Sunday.

Edgardo Henriquez!

Glasnow was pulled from the game due to cramping. I thought that was an old man’s disease. When I get those suckers, they hurt for hours. Phillips is second in the league in saves with 8. Helsley of the Cardinals has 9.

Well my suspicions were confirmed yesterday.  Doc is reading my posts on this site.  Why else would he have Chris Taylor sac bunt in the 9 hole to set up Mookie’s rbi knock?  I’ve been lobbying for this for awhile now, especially from Barnes but it works for CT3 too.  And damned if it didn’t happen.
We have had 4 absolutely outstanding starting pitching performances in a row. Knack, Yamamoto, Stone and Glasgow have gone at least 6 innings, In 25 innings they have given up only 11 hits and 4 earned runs. And stretched out to The 94 pitch range. Nice to see
Got a nice appearance from Joseph with his 101 heat seeker. He retired Slider Joe for the day.
Keep up the good work.

Getaway Sunday going as expected…..

I really dislike bullpen games.

OhioDodger

Lame effort by the offense today. 0 for 9 RISP, 7 LOB. Pitching was more than adequate.

Bluto

Always gonna lose when the offense doesn’t outscore the other team.

The change in tone in posts on this site after losses is annoying to me. Not sure why it bothers me so.

Let’s give credit where it is due. Gausman pitched a very good game, and he was aided by some outstanding defense. They are 5-1 on the trip so far and have three games to make it an excellent road trip. Braves into Dodger Stadium for 3. Marlins after that.

Phil Jones

Nice job by Toronto. they played a good game and Glausman used his fastball very effectively. They also made some great players. A couple in the outfield didn’t included the cleanest routes but the object is to catch the baseball. They did.
We had our chances but we didn’t get the timely hit of two.
I have always been entertained by Alejandro Kirk. Yogi was 5″8″but not 245. And he can play. He had a day against us.
Neither he nor Davis Schneider, look like prototypical big leaguer but we’re not selling jeans here.
Play better.
