River Ryan Makes OKC Debut

Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle) 9 – OKC Dodgers 7

River Ryan was making his AAA debut and it did not go well.  3.0 IP, 6 hits, 7 runs (all earned), 2 BB, 7K.  6 of the 7 runs came via the HR:  a grand slam and a 2-run shot.

Alec Gamboa could not find the strike zone in this one.  In 1.1 IP, he gave up 6 BB, and it turned into 1 run.

Tyson Miller got the next 1.2 and allowed the 9th run on a HR.

The pitching was not good, but the bats came to play.  OKC outhit Tacoma 14 to 8, but the HRs were the difference.

Key Offensive Performers:

  • Drew Avans – 1-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI, double (26)
  • Miguel Vargas – 2-4, 1 BB, 1 run, 1 RBI, double (13)
  • Jorbit Vivas – 2-4, 1 BB,
  • David Dahl – 3-5, 2 runs, 2 RBI, double (26)
  • Yonny Hernández – 3-5, 1 run, 1 RBI
  • Steven Duggar – 2-4, 1 run, 2 RBI, double (26)

Corpus Christi Hooks (Houston) 7 – Tulsa Drillers 1

This is the final week of the AA season, and the Drillers, not in the playoffs, are playing like they just want to go home.  They are 0-11 in the month of September.  The 11 game losing streak is the second longest in the 46 years of the Tulsa franchise.

After 2 games in the series, the Hooks have scored 19 runs on 28 hits, while the Drillers 1 run on 8 hits.

For a team that started the season with starting pitchers:

  • Emmet Sheehan (MLB)
  • Nick Frasso (OKC)
  • Landon Knack (OKC)
  • Nick Nastrini (CWS AAA)
  • Kyle Hurt (MLB/OKC)
  • River Ryan (OKC)

They are now down to:

  • Kendall Williams
  • Ben Casparius
  • Orlando Ortiz-Mayr

They are starting openers Trevor Bettencourt and Robbie Peto.

Jorbit Vivas was promoted to OKC.  Eddys Leonard was traded to Detroit…for cash.  Leonard was immediately promoted to AAA with Detroit, and is proving to be well spent cash by Detroit. For Toledo (Detroit AAA), in 139 PA, Eddys is batting .303/.388/.555/.943 with 9 doubles and 7 HR.

Diego Cartaya never got untracked, and will end the season on the IL…again.  Neither did Kody Hoese or Brandon Lewis.  José Ramos has shown power, but has not improved over last year.  In fact he has probably regressed.

In this game, 29 year old MiLB FA Trevor Bettencourt (RHRP) started and went 2.1 IP allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, 1 BB, 1 K.  Jake Pilarski (1.2 IP) and Braydon Fisher (2.0 IP) pitched thru the 6th without allowing a run.  Sauryn Lao allowed a 3-run HR and Antonio Knowles allowed a solo HR to finish the scoring.

The Drillers run was scored after a Hamlet Marte BB, a WP, and a double from 24 year old OF Ismael Alcantara.  It was his 5th double since he was promoted to AA on June 29.

Alcantara had 2 hits and 24 year old catcher Carson Taylor had the Drillers other hit.

I am sure the season can’t end quick enough for the Drillers or their players.

Curious what the AA rotation will be to start next year. Time to be aggressive with some guys?

7 Ks in 3 IP. That’s good.

Anybody want to talk about last nights fiasco. 3 for 30, 0 for 4 WRISP, 13 Ks. Dodgers Nonce was invalid.

San Diego 20 games out and they are laughing and clowning in the dugout. I guess beating the Dodgers is good enough for them.

Red Sox fired Chaim Bloom today. Turned the game off after Kelly gave up 2. There were more entertaining things to watch like The Sopranos re-runs.

I had lunch today with Ted Raymond at Mugs here in Canon City. Talked baseball and some other topics. Very pleasant visit. Thanks Ted, I will get that CD burned and in the mail to you.
