Starting pitcher has to be next, even though I’d prefer a 3B.

Bumsrap

I would think there are a lot of teams approaching the Dodgers about Ryan, Wrobleski, Knack, etc

Toycannon23

Soler back to Bravos Snell next ?

Bluto

Given the Kikuchi return, I’m dreading what the Dodgers will have to give up, but….

What are you gonna do? Hopefully the front office are good salesmen.

Eric

I think people misunderstood me when I said “I think AF has thrown in the towel for getting impact players/needle movers”. AF already had 3 possibly 4 holes to fill before he traded. AF has more information than us about injured players. So this is my theory: AF found out Yamamoto and Muncy aren’t returning this year and so now (before he started trading) he had 5 or 6 holes to fill and he probably made the decision that it’s not worth it to use the prospect capital (gutting the farm) anymore to acquire 2 impact players/needle movers since there are 5 or 6 holes to fill. So he traded for Rosario and Edman who are both platoon players for their career, but Rosario is putting up 1 good piece of his slashline this year and that’s his BA against RHP, the type of pitchers that make him a platoon player. Next up is Kopech: His WHIP and HR/9 the last 2 years AND his career WHIP and HR/9 are all worse than league average. By the way HR’s allowed by a pitcher ESPECIALLY relief pitchers can kill you in the playoffs. So maybe I said the wrong words, but those words are clear about what I’m thinking AF has decided on, because so far he has gotten 2 players that are right around league average players and 1 that is worse than league average.

I might be wrong and tomorrow he could make a blockbuster or 2 trades for impact players/needle movers.

Just my opinion for what it’s worth.

Duke Not Snider

The acquisitions of Edman and Rosario have me thinking that the Dodgers front office must be very pessimistic about Max returning this season as a productive player.
And I have to think that, after all of Gomes’ talk about landing “impact” talent, there is still something big in the works.
If a deal falls through, we could have Eduardo Rodriguez deja vu.
At any rate, Edman and Rosario should improve the bottom of the lineup, even as platoon players.
The radio chatter I heard is that Edman would likely play CF and Rosario may platoon at 2B with Lux. At any rate, the Dodgers have added two more UT guys to Taylor, Kike and Biggio. And it would be six if we count Mookie, who I think may end up shifting to CF
The Dodgers seem confident that Edman can come back strong from his injury hiatus.
Perhaps the DFA of Yarbrough means a new pitcher will arrive tomorrow.

Duke Not Snider

In a sellers’ market, AF brings back AmedRosario for the bargain price of OKC pitcher Michael Flynn, who was not on my radar at all. Rosario had some good moments last season, and he’s been hitting well. His speed could win a game or two.
While I was hoping Lux might start playing full-time, my guess is that Rosario is his new platoon partner.
One alignment could have Mookie at SS and Edman in CF.
I’ve assumed that Rojas’s injury isn’t severe… but maybe these acquisitions mean the front office is worried about his status as well.
Some speculation had the Dodgers acquiring Lane Thomas. But he’s going to the Guardians.
Will tomorrow bring a big arm and a big bat?
Or anticlimax?

Imagine if tomorrow morning we wake up to the surprise of Lindor and Alonso being traded to LA, with the Mets paying the rest of his salary this year and about $15 million per season for the remainder of his contract.

I know it won’t happen, but what I’m trying to say is an example that something like this could happen, it’s not something that hasn’t happened before.

Or it could be that he doesn’t make any trades, which has also happened before.

Many are expecting a big trade, some elite player, and that won’t happen, at least not this season.

No Jose Ramirez, no Nolan Arenado, no top-level and very expensive player, I think the reinforcements are coming with the names of Betts, Muncy, Stone, Brasier, Buehler, Miller, Graterol, Yamamoto, etc.

Scott Andes

looks like Friedman is rebuilding the bench, which is something that was sorely needed for them. With the auto outs for half the season coming off the bench due to injuries.

We know Mookie is coming back, and I’m assuming Muncy will be back at some point. If they don’t get another outfielder seems logical to have Edman in center, with Teo in left, and maybe they could move Mookie back to right field since it seems they’re more than Covered at short now with both Ahmeds (Amed) and Edman can play some short in a pinch, and Kike can play short in an emergency as well, if he’s not moved. I’m also assuming miggy ro comes back at some point too.

We have to ask ourselves and maybe Friedman and Roberts are thinking about the position that has the least amount of wear and tear on Mookie’s body, and it could be in right field. Heyward has been useless this year and would like to see him out of the starting lineup. Here’s how the playoff lineup could look if no other moves are made.

Mookie RF
Ohtani DH
Freddie 1B
Teoscar LF
Smith C
Muncy 3B
Lux 2B
Edman CF
Rosario SS

This is if they move Mookie back to right. If they keep Mookie at short then you probably have either pages or Heyward in right. Still a lot to process until tomorrow.

The trades raised he floor for the bench which is a good thing. Plus Edman can play CF if the Dodgers do not get a Robert jun.
I am with Bluto as far as the cost of a potential starter is concerned. The price for Kikuchi was really high. Flaherty very likely will cost even more much less a Crochet or Skubal.
Interesting the Dodgers talked to the Twins for their closer . Would prefer Tanner Scott though.
Interesting hours ahead….

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!

dodgerram

On the minor league side: The ACL Dodgers won the title yesterday. Joendry Vargas with a very strong performance in the playoffs. I think they will move him and Quintero to RC for the rest of the season. With the trade of Albertus and Perez RC is a little short on infielders anyway.

Go Dodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yamamoto is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday per reports. Perhaps this lessens the need for a starter? If Yamamoto returns, and Glasnow doesn’t turn into glass, they have Kershaw and the kids. Maybe they have enough?

Oldbear48

No overnight action. Things should heat up today. Az pulled one out last night scoring 5 in the bottom of the 9th to stun the Nats, who led at one point, 6-0. Corbin Carroll hit his first walk-off homer. They did however lose Christian Walker to what was described as abdominal pain. I have an optometrist appointment this morning, but I will be back and checking the trades after that.

If the Dodgers wanted a defense first centerfielder, they could go after Kiermaier. He isn’t hitting worth spit but slip him in the 9 hole and he won’t hurt you much. And his glove is one of the best in the majors. He is retiring at the end of the season. So, he would be dirt cheap. .240 career hitter who might benefit from being surrounded by good hitters. 4 gold gloves in his career, including one last season. Weird, when I write something I show up as Michael, when I post something, I show up as Bear. Hmm

No word yet on when Freeman will return. His three days for family emergency are up today, I think.

Very disappointing to read the negative comments about Mark and LADT.

its amazing how many posters are willing to
pile on, yet all seemed to visit his site every day to see what his latest Post had to offer.
To come up with new content every day for 20 plus years and have that amount of dedication takes a lot of effort and energy. His writing style was deliberately polarising but unfortunately some people were unable to see this and seemed to take affront or take it personally.

The use of the word Moron seemed to really upset people. Really!! Come on, it’s about as light as your gonna get, and of course the more people whined the more he used it. He was also right about the Dodgers far more than he was wrong.

I read there and contributed occasionally for 13 years in which time I learned so much more about the great game and enjoyed the to and fro with many of of you guys.

I would like to thank Mark for his efforts.

cheers

I am just about ready to walk out the door to the hospital for my long awaited knee replacement surgery. I will not be around when the Dodgers land Gerrit Cole and Juan Soto from NYY for 3 DSL players, so I will miss that.

I have no idea how long my initial rehab will take before I can get back to writing, but in the meantime, I have left everything in the capable hands of Bear. He has my complete confidence and support.

For those who may be reading but have not yet commented, it is probable that your initial post will be placed in moderation until someone has approved it. My understanding was that Bear had the authority to approve so please be patient and someone will get to it. The problem is that I do get a lot of spam posts that I eliminate so there has to be some initial filter.

In the interim, enjoy the final trade deadline day for 2024.

Oldbear48

Will be interesting to see who gets the trades posted first. X or MLBTR. On the internet at least. We all know MLB.TV will be following every move as it happens.

Oldbear48

Just read that Taillon has a 10-team no trade clause in his contract that he signed in 22 for four years. He said the Cubs had not contacted him concerning any trades.

Red Sox Could Add Right-Handed Middle Infielder….
Pick one, Dodgers have plenty, it looks like a buffet of middle infielders

Dionysus

Prediction: we will make two trades today, one for an OF and one for a SP. The second one will be major and announced right after the buzzer. And it will cost a prospect fortune.

Bluto

Still worried about/interested to see the impact of the outsized Kikuchi trade

OhioDodger

Any thoughts on the prospects we gave up to acquire Edman and Kopech?

Singing the Blue

Jeff, just want to add my good wishes for a successful operation and a speedy recovery. As someone else has pointed out, since you don’t type with your knee, you should be back here, at least for brief comments, very quickly.

Having followed you here and at Mark’s site for a long while, I know you’re a very smart guy. One question: how in the world did you ever allow yourself to be scheduled to go to the hospital on deadline day?

Just for the record, “Deadline Day” refers to baseball trades, not knee operations.

See you back here soon. Take care.

Do the Dodgers have any shot at getting Rengifo? Tyler Anderson anyone?

Bluto

Per Feinsand a trade of Dylans!

Hearing the Nats and Cards have discussed a deal involving Dylan Carlson and Dylan Floro. Could happen in the coming hours. Carlson has no place in STL, but Nats view him as change-of-scenery candidate.

Per Heyman:
Hearing Dodgers, Yankees and Red Sox are among teams with interest in Tigers top righthander Jack Flaherty

Per Bluto:
With those high returns for middling Rogers and Kikuchi, it may not be possible to meet the price for Crochet. Thus Flaherty.

Make Mine Blue

If J. Turner was available to be traded to the Mariners, why weren’t the dodgers interested in his services. We need a 3B and could use his bat as well. Yeah I know he is getting older but dang he would have been every bit as useful to us as to what we are currently running out onto the field. Don’t forget he can also play 1B ( I ain’t into Biggio getting the at bats he as been getting since getting fired by the Jays for being, wait for it, a terrible hitter).

Therealten

Anything the Dodgers do will probably come down to 5pm. Sometimes deals aren’t reported until after the deadline. They could negotiate until the time is complete.

Bobby

Tanner Scott is on his way to San Diego

toycannon23

Bryan de la Cruz was OF bat I wanted..ugh pirates go 4 it !!

Bobby

Passan says we’re getting Flaherty

norcaldodgerfan

Kiermeir to the Dodgers for Yarborough. Underwhelming, feels a lot like Joey Gallo part 2.

norcaldodgerfan

Flaherty to the dodgers. NICE!

Scott Andes

the Dodgers got Kiermaier! They listened to me!

Bobby

Nightengale says we sent Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney to Det for Flaherty.

Wow, that’s it????

Bluto

The Dodgers are sending prospects Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney to the Tigers for Jack Flaherty.
@Passan

The Dodgers front office is soooooo good

Bumsrap

A lot of gold gloves on the Dodgers

OhioDodger

Glad we got Flaherty. Was hoping for Tanner Scott or Mason Miller. Flaherty came cheaper than I thought.

Bluto

Where are all the Negative Nancies who thought it was mediocre players as a strategy?

or who made veiled references to Nero?

this is the value of a loaded, deep farm system and smart execs.

Dodgfan

Flaherty is a sneaky good acquisition. He had been pitching extremely well for Detroit.

Wayne

Flaherty deal just seems too good to be true — a bonafide steal if his back holds up.

Not bad at all. This is one of Friedman’s best trade deadlines. I gotta admit. Good moves all around. A decent hitting centerfielder, who is also a gold glove. Another gold glove center fielder. A front line starter, a shortstop who can play other positions, and a reliever. Not a bad haul, and none of the top prospects dealt. They give up Ryan Yarbs, Miguel Vargas, and 5 low-level prospects. Color me impressed. Rebuilt bench, New center fielder, added a shortstop, a front line starter, a reliever, and another gold glove outfielder. I’m good with this.
